Wind Kevlar thread on hook and secure.

Tie in Orange Bucktail Tail and secure thread.

Begin spinning black deer hair on hook, starting with black deer hair.

Then spin on orange deer hair for center segment.

Finally spin on black deer hair for front segment.

Tie off kevlar thread and trim.

Remove fly from vise and trim over a waste basket. I have found it is much neater to trim the deer hair this way. I prefer trimming with scissors.

I also like trimming along the length of the fly, which produces fewer gaps and a smoother fly.

Cut a piece of 2mm orange foam, 3/8 inch wide and two to 3 inches long.

Attach 6/0 orange thread to hook.

Attach foam to front of fly; tie off thread and trim.

Attach 6/0 orange thread to rear of fly.

Stretch foam to rear of fly and attach with thread; tie off thread and trim.

Attach 6/0 orange thread again to front of fly.

Stretch foam to front of fly and attach with thread.

Tie off thread and trim.

Trim foam to form a cup with bottom section. Trim top section of foam short.

The exact color segmentation of the flies will vary depending on amounts of deer hair spun on hook.
