Materials for Glo Bug:
Thread: Heavy tying thread, 3/0 or stronger; Fluorescent orange in this example. Hook: I am using a size 4 Owner SSW in this example. Body: Various colors of egg yarn; steelhead orange and chartreuse in this example.
Tie on the tying thread so it covers the shank of the hook. If you want the fly weighted, add a tungsten bead before tying on the thread.
Cut seven pieces of egg yarn approx. 3/4 inch long.
Lay four pieces on top the hook and wrap thread loosely over yarn.
Wrap thread one full turn around yarn and pull tight, which spins yarn around hook.
Place balance of egg yarn (three pieces) on hook and wrap with thread. Again one full turn of the thread and pull tight.
Pull thread in front of yarn, wrap around hook ten plus times and tie off head.
Glo Bug before trimming. Use your tying scissors to shape fly. The closer you trim the yarn, the denser the fly body.
Finished fly.
